The system is designed on the principle that cash terminals should work independently of any file server or back-office computer system. This means there is no central point to fail, reinforcing the compelling reality that cash terminals are the most effective and preferred option for point of sale.
Even if the power fails, or the central computer is turned off, the cash terminals will still work.

- A stocktaking facility using a PDE (portable data entry) to scan bar codes or PLU numbers.
